A 33-year veteran of the IT industry, Saw Thiam Hin was appointed to the position of CEO in July 2016, taking over from industry icon and HTC Group founder, Harres Tan.
Before his appointment to the position of CEO, Saw was Group COO, a position he held since January 2000. Saw was responsible for the Group’s overall operations which spanned from Malaysia to America. In the 17 years, Saw helped the group grow its business and customer base to countries which they least expected initially. The group secured deals in neighbouring countries in South-East Asia and Hong Kong; and from as far away as West & Central Africa, Middle East and Latin America.
Saw first joined the HTC Group in February 1991 as General Manager of Object Software. At Object Software, he grew the company to be a key supplier of MRP-II solutions to the manufacturing sector. Under Saw’s management, Object Software secured many prestigious customers from illustrious conglomerates in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Prior to the HTC Group, Saw worked for a reputable local IT company in Kuala Lumpur. He started off in 1983 as a Software Programmer and quickly moved up to be a Systems Analyst / Project Manager by the time he left in January 1991.
Asked about his most challenging times, he recalls the 2-year period
immediately after his marriage when he had to leave his newly married wife behind in KL while he was stationed in a small town in Sarawak.
On why he has stayed on for 26 years in HTC Group, Saw replied that he had enjoyed working with group founder, Harres Tan. Although they may have different views on some matters, they both shared the same ideas on a lot more. “I have been blessed to be able to work alongside and learn from such an icon. Many people would have loved to be given this opportunity. I have nothing but love and respect for the man”, he said with reference to Harres.
Saw also sits on the Board of the HTC Group of Companies.
